With society’s existing bias towards the female gender, education is often the first casualty and it becomes a lifelong handicap. What’s worse, this works in a vicious cycle with poor education leading to a poor standard of living and the cycle continues.
The cause is rife not just in rural areas but also urban cities like Mumbai and some great work is being done by the NGO. We continue to believe that the dna ICan Women’s Half Marathon would provide an ideal platform for women to make a difference by supporting a cause and celebrate the spirit of achievement.
Last year, I ran the fun run at the dna iCan Women’s Marathon. This year, after watching all the other women compete, I have qualified myself (it’s a self-analysis, mind you) to run the 10-kilometre race. I believe I can run a lot more (my record is a good 16 kilometres on a Sunday morning), but the March heat and the fact that I have other plans on March 12, have resulted in me registering myself for the 10 K race.
A problem that I’ve faced in the past year is a case of split shins. I paid for this injury because I sometimes got too lazy about stretching myself after a run.
When the road is long and the grit is strong
Don’t lose your breath and keep pumping energy
With every kilometer that seems like the end
There’s one more bend
MTNL, MMRDA and Stock Exchange
If you think you have what it takes to raze the street
Make the half marathon run
When the going gets tough
The tough get rolling
Make the dash through Trident and Consulate
Get to the finish line before it’s too late
Run for the spirit of the marathon
Run a little longer today and prepare for the longer one tomorrow.
Fly to the sun and back
Take the first step and soak up the sun
5 Km is just a state of mind
Smile your way to the finish line
After all, this is where it begins
Your first brush with the marathon
